The Leopards Den play host to the Women’s Tour of Britain this Sunday!

Named the first ever European Capital of Cycling, Greater Manchester will welcome some of the biggest names in female cycling as they go head-to-head over 99km and 1,615m of elevation in the inaugural Tour of Britain Women.

On Sunday 9th June The Leopards Den at Leigh Sports Village will set the stage for what is expected to be a spectacular finish to the 2024 Woman’s Tour of Britain race where spectators will witness history in action as the overall race winner will be crowned.

The race will depart at 11:15 from the National Cycling Centre, the home of British Cycling, and will conclude at Leigh Sports Village with riders expected to cross the finish line at approximately 14:00.

Leigh Leopards owner Derek Beaumont said: “It’s fantastic and testament to the town of Leigh and its fantastic facility, Leigh Sports Village, that we can attract such a significant sporting event.

“Our town is fast becoming known as a venue for elite women’s sport; as well as top flight men’s and women’s rugby league we are proud to be the home of Manchester United’s women’s football team and to have hosted the women’s UEFA championships.

“To be able to add to this a sport, in cycling, that is something I enjoy participating in myself is truly fantastic and something I couldn’t wait to get behind and support Wigan and Leigh Council in making it a huge success.

“I look forward to seeing as many people as possible on the day and will wait with bated breath, not only to see who crosses the line to be crowned champion cyclist race leader but also if anyone has pipped me at the post in our AB Sundecks Formula 1 simulator.”
