Leigh Leopards supporters will have the opportunity to welcome rugby league legend Sir Kevin Sinfield to Leigh Sports Village as part of his seventh and final annual fundraising challenge on Friday 2 October.
7 in 7: The Grand Finale will see Sir Kevin and his team complete an ultra marathon every day for seven days, visiting all 12 Betfred Super League clubs before finishing on the pitch at Old Trafford ahead of the Betfred Super League Grand Final.
The challenge begins at Hull KR on Sunday 27 September, with Leigh Sports Village featuring on the penultimate day of the challenge on Friday 2 October.
Sir Kevin and his team are scheduled to arrive at Leigh Sports Village at 11:02am, where they will complete an Extra Mile event on the Leigh Harriers track.
The Extra Mile events see Sir Kevin and members of the 7 in 7 team joined by people impacted by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) to complete a mile together.
At Leigh, supporters will have the opportunity to join the welcome and show their support before Sir Kevin takes a short break and continues the next leg of his challenge at approximately 11:40am.
Fans are advised to arrive at Leigh Sports Village from 10:30am. Fans can watch Sir Kevin complete his Extra Mile around Leigh Harriers track, line the walkways around the North Stand or gather at the front of the stadium as he makes his way from the track to the front of the stadium to say a few words.
And there will be a special Leigh touch to Sir Kevin’s visit, with the former England captain promising to wear the famous Leigh Leopards print.
Seven years of fundraising
7 in 7: The Grand Finale marks the culmination of Sir Kevin’s annual fundraising challenges, which began in 2020 following Rob Burrow’s diagnosis with MND.
Since the first challenge, Sir Kevin and his team have raised more than £11 million to support the MND community across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
Six charities will benefit from this year’s fundraising: the MND Association, Leeds Hospitals Charity, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, MND Scotland and the Irish MND Association.
The format for the Grand Finale will see Sir Kevin complete each day’s ultra marathon in 7km blocks, with each block to be completed within an hour before he starts the next.
Following his visit to Leigh, the team will continue to Wigan Warriors and St Helens before the challenge concludes on Saturday 3 October.
The final day will see the team travel from St Helens via Warrington Wolves before reaching Old Trafford, where Sir Kevin will complete his seventh and final challenge in front of supporters attending the Betfred Super League Grand Final.
Old Trafford provides a fitting conclusion to the seven-year journey, with Sir Kevin and his former Leeds Rhinos team-mate Rob Burrow having won seven Grand Finals together during their playing careers.
The Man of the Match award at the Betfred Super League Grand Final is now named the Rob Burrow Trophy, ensuring Burrow’s legacy continues to be celebrated on Rugby League’s biggest stage.
