St Helens 50-16 Leigh Leopards

Leopards Reserves made the short trip down the East Lancashire Road to St Helens on Saturday  in search of their first win since a 78-6 triumph over Bradford Bulls on 10 May.

However, a strong Saints side, bolstered by the presence of several first team squad players emerged as 50-16 victors.

Ian Talbot’s St Helens Reserves side looked to take the lead in the early proceedings, but an excellent interception from Will Brough, collecting Ciaran Nolan’s attempted pass denied them a certain try.

The hosts found the first score of the game on the left edge through Deacon Swarbrick, after Jon Bennison’s run, but Kian McGann was unable to add the extras.

Saints soon made their pressure count again, with Joel Kilgallon and Konrad Hurrell crossing the line in quick succession.

Bennison successfully converted Hurrell’s try.

Cole Marsh continued the scoring for St Helens by grounding the ball between the sticks, before Kilgallon finished to earn his second try of the game.

Leopards subsequently got themselves onto the scoresheet, thanks to Seth Woodend’s finish in the corner, following Valu Tane Bentley’s breakaway.

Stuart Littler’s side then ensured that the half-time deficit was reduced to 26-10, thanks to Dylan Hughes’ try between the sticks, ensuring Leopards had the momentum heading into the break.

However, the hosts scored the first try of the second 40, thanks to Oliver Polec, with Bennison successfully kicking once again.

Tom Humphreys scored Saints’ second try of the second half when he profited from Bennison’s offload.

The full-back later crossed the line himself, converting his own try, before Agnatius Paasi also scored for the home side.

Leopards then swiftly found their third try of the afternoon as Ben Tyrer completed an impressive solo run after latching onto Will Brough’s short kick to restart, and grounded between the sticks.

Brough then successfully added the additional two points from the tee.
