Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm that Gareth O’Brien has signed a contract extension to retain his services at the Leopards Den for a fourth year (CHECK LENGTH).

Talented, tough, versatile and brave, O’Brien has played an outstanding role in the Leopards’ recent successes which include a club record three successive playoff appearances and the 2023 Challenge Cup victory.

He wrote himself in club folklore with the match-winning, golden point extra time winning drop goal in the Round 1 victory at Wigan Warriors.

Gareth O’Brien said: I’m buzzing that my contract is finally over the line. Another 12 months! The club is growing year by year and I honestly believe that we are getting stronger through our recruitment.

“Winning The Challenge Cup in my first year was my highlight so far. It’s something I’ve wanted since I was a little kid, to play in the big games. Now I want to win a grand final. On our day we know we can beat anyone.”

Club owner Derek Beaumont said: “Gaz is a great guy and important to us. He puts his body on the line and when he plays well Lachlan Lam plays even better.”

O’Brien, 33, has made over 300 appearances since his senior debut in 2011 and previously represented hometown Warrington Wolves, Salford Red Devils, Toronto Wolfpack and Castleford Tigers with distinction.
