AllChild, a model for early-action, community-led support, was created in 2016 by families, charities, local government, and schools who shared one common goal: to ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive. Launched in West London, the initiative was born from a shared experience — everyone involved knew someone whose life could have followed a different path with the right support.
In 2024, AllChild expanded its impact by launching in Wigan, with a focus on the communities of Leigh, Atherton, and Tyldesley. Working in partnership with Wigan Council, the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership, local community organisations, and schools, AllChild is addressing key local priorities such as reducing persistent school absenteeism, child mental health referrals, and school suspensions and exclusions. These three areas were identified by council and NHS stakeholders as being of urgent need, with significant disparities in access to services.
One of the programme’s exciting collaborations is with the Leigh Leopards Foundation which not only delivers 10-week emotional resilience sessions in 4 out of the 7 schools but has also created a unique opportunity for children and families participating in AllChild in all 7 school. On Thursday, 22nd May, participating children and young people will take part in a special matchday experience at the Leigh Leopards vs Hull FC game.
Before kick-off, children will step onto the pitch to take part in flag-bearing activities, representing their schools and communities. At half time, they’ll return to the field and take part in a pitch parade celebrating their involvement in the AllChild programme in front of friends, families, and supporters.
This collaboration exemplifies the spirit of AllChild and the Leopards bringing together communities to create positive, life-changing experiences for children, right where they live.
Reflecting on the programme Martyn Leach, Leopards Foundation Community Development Manager commented, “At Leigh Leopards Foundation, we’re proud to be working alongside AllChild to support children in our community. This partnership is about more than just sport, it’s about helping young people feel seen, valued, and capable.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with many of the children involved, and seeing their confidence grow each week is genuinely inspiring. Watching them step out onto the pitch on matchday, proud of who they are and where they’re from, will be a special moment, not just for them, but for all of us who believe in what they can achieve.”
