Adrian Lam nominated for Super League Coach of the Year

Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm that Adrian Lam has been nominated for the prestigious Betfred Super League Coach of the Year.

The other nominations are Willie Peters and Matt Peet, head coaches of Hull KR and Wigan Warriors respectively.

Lam has already won the award twice during his distinguished coaching career and an unprecedented modern era hat-trick would be a justifiable recognition of the immense progress the club has made under his stewardship.

Lam was appointed head coach to the then Centurions in November 2021 and steered the club to a record-breaking 2022 season, winning the Championship League Leaders Shield, Promotion Grand Final and the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup.

Despite his achievements he was overlooked for Barrow Raiders’ Paul Crarey for the Championship Coach of the Year.

In 2023, however, Lam’s efforts in masterminding the rebranded Leopards to a first Challenge Cup win for 52 years and a first-ever playoff place in the summer era were rewarded. He was voted Betfred Super League Coach of the Year for a second time, having first won the award after coaching Wigan Warriors to the League Leaders Shield in the pandemic-dominated 2020 season.

In 2024 Leopards reached the playoffs for a second time, losing at Wigan in the semi-finals and this year have secured a third-placed finish, the third highest in club history and the best for 43 years.

That never have Leigh previously secured three successive top five finishes in the topflight demonstrates Lam’s achievements in leading Leopards during the club’s longest sustained period of success.

Recent winners of the award, which will be announced on Tuesday week at the annual Steve Prescott Man of Steel Awards Dinner, are: 2020 Adrian Lam (Wigan), 2021 Steve McNamara (Catalans Dragons), 2022 Matt Peet (Wigan ), 2023 Adrian Lam (Leigh Leopards), 2024 Willie Peters (Hull KR).

Daryl Powell, head coach of Wakefield Trinity, tomorrow’s Elimination Playoff opponents, won the award in both 2024 and 2017 during his time at Castleford Tigers.
