Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm that the Women’s team have clinched the league leaders honour in the Championship with two league games remaining.
Leopards’ nearest challengers, Sheffield Eagles, lost 26-6 at Salford Red Devils on Sunday which confirms they cannot be overtaken.
Kieron Purtill’s team have swept all before them in the Championship so far and have won all 14 league games, having scored 724 points and concededg only 64.
Leopards’ remaining games are at home to Bradford Bulls on Saturday 31 August (please note change from usual Sunday fixture day). This game will be played at Leigh Miners Rangers Academy, Sutton Park, Manchester Road with a 2pm kick-off.
Special events are planned around this fixture which will be announced soon.
Leopards conclude their league programme with a visit to Stanningley on Sunday 7 September (2pm).
The play-offs then commence on Sunday 14 September and Leopards are guaranteed a home semi-final which will be played at Leigh Miners Rangers, Twist Lane.
Victory in that game would then ensure a home final the following weekend.
Leopards’ aim is to secure a place in the eight-team Super League for 2025.
If they win the championship by virtue of two play-off victories, they will then play the winners of the Southern Championship (Cardiff Demons or London Broncos, who play in the South grand final on Sat 7 Sep) on a neutral ground on the weekend of 27-28 September.
The winners of that game will play the bottom placed team in Super League (currently Featherstone Rovers) on a neutral ground over the weekend of 5-6 October for the right to play in Super League in 2025.
