In Memory of Clive Render

15 MARCH 1957 – 7 APRIL 2026

Leigh Leopards are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Clive Render on 7 April 2026 at the age of 69 and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Clive, a familiar and much-loved voice in Leigh, has sadly passed away, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and community spirit. Known to many as the long-serving match-day announcer for Leigh Centurions, Clive’s voice became part of the fabric of game days, welcoming supporters and bringing energy to the occasion.

Beyond the stadium, he was a regular presence at the Leigh market stall for the club, where his friendly manner and passion for the team made him a favourite among fans and locals alike. Clive’s commitment to the club and the town never wavered, and he was widely respected for the time and care he gave to both.

Earlier this season, he was delighted to step back into his role as announcer for a special one-off appearance, an occasion that meant a great deal to him and to those who appreciated his contribution over the years.

Clive will be remembered as a kind and well-liked man who gave so much to his community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Club owner Derek Beaumont had this to say:

“I am saddened to hear of the passing of Clive Render. For many years he was the voice of the club on matchdays announcing the players and all the special occasions. He was also a fantastic employee and assistant to the former retail manager Gillian who I am sure will be deeply saddened by this news.

“Clive was a great personality rivalled only by his flamboyant dress sense which included his trademark wearing of odd shoes. He was a massive supporter of the club who would do anything for it at the drop of a hat, which was evident when he stepped into his old role as match-day announcer for our recent Challenge Cup game against Hull FC at short notice. It is somewhat comforting that he got to do that again and I know he enjoyed the occasion.

“Clive’s colourful presence and personality will be missed and everyone at the club will hold him in their thoughts as we express our sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. We will be inviting our supporters many who will have met Clive over the years to pay their respects with a minutes applause during the 69th minute (Clive’s age) of our next home fixture against Huddersfield Giants.”
