Ed Chamberlain to join Hull FC on loan

Leigh Leopards can confirm that Ed Chamberlain has joined Hull FC on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 28-year-old Ireland international was one of Chris Chester’s first signings when he took over as Head of Rugby in October 2021 and has since figured in some of the club’s biggest moments in their history.

Chamberlain played 30 games during the record-breaking 2022 campaign and was a key member of the side that defeated Batley Bulldogs to win the Championship Grand Final and qualify for Super League.

Last year he played in the Leopards’ Challenge Cup final victory over Hull KR, 17-16 after golden point extra-time at Wembley Stadium. He showed his versatility throughout a season which saw the Leopards reach the Super League play-offs for the first time.

Head of Rugby Chris Chester said: “Ed was one of the first signings I made when joining the club. He’s been a fantastic servant to the club. I wish him well in this new opportunity.”

Chamberlain said: “It’s been a very tough decision to leave the club, but I’ve got an opportunity at Hull that I want to pursue. I’d like to thank the club for allowing that to happen.

“I’ve loved my time at Leigh and want to thank all the fans for their support. It’s been an incredible experience being a part of this incredible group and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”

Warrington born Chamberlain can play either full back, wing, centre, standoff or second row and is also a useful goalkicker. Formerly with Widnes Vikings and Salford Red Devils, he also spent time on loan at London Broncos, Whitehaven, Workington Town and Bradford Bulls.

He qualified for Ireland through his grandparents and played in both the 2017 and 2022 World Cups.

He scored 21 tries and kicked 13 goals in 55 Leigh games and earned Heritage Number HN#1526.
