Leigh Leopards are delighted to confirm the signing of talented young utility player Jack Purtill from Wigan Warriors, as the club continues to strengthen its squad for the future.
Purtill, 20, arrives at Leigh having developed within the youth systems of both Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors, gaining valuable experience in two established Super League environments.
A versatile and promising young talent, Jack is capable of covering hooker, halfback and loose forward, offering valuable flexibility to the Leopards’ playing squad as he looks to take the next step in his professional career.
The signing also sees Jack follow in familiar footsteps, as the son of former Leigh player and coach Kieron Purtill, who represented the club during his playing career before going on to coach both the Leopards Mens and Women’s team during his time at the club and was also instrumental in the formation of our Scholarship and Academy programmes.
Director of Rugby Andrew Henderson said:
“We are happy to bring Jack Purtill to Leigh Leopards. He is a young player from the Leigh area who we have been tracking closely, and adds utility value covering the hooker, halfback and loose forward position. We are excited to add another talented, ambitious individual to our squad.
“At just 20 years of age, Jack has already benefited from being part of a Super League development system. He displays a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and the qualities we look for in young players who have the potential to develop into Super League performers.
“One of our key objectives as a club is to identify and recruit talented young players who are hungry to improve and eager to challenge themselves in a professional environment. Jack fits that profile perfectly. He has genuine potential, but just as importantly he has the attitude and character required to maximise that potential.
“We believe Leigh is a place where young players can thrive. We have experienced leaders within the squad, an excellent coaching team and a culture that encourages players to work hard, improve daily and earn their opportunities. We’re looking forward to helping Jack continue his development and supporting him on the next stage of his journey.
“This signing reflects our commitment to building not only for the present but also for the future. Jack is a player we’re excited about, and we look forward to seeing his progress in a Leigh Leopards shirt.”
When asked about what it means to him to sign for the Leopards, Jack said:
“I grew up in Leigh, supported them so when the opportunity came, I was buzzing and I couldn’t wait to take it… It means the world to me and I can’t wait to give it everything I’ve got”
Everyone at Leigh Leopards welcomes Jack to the club and looks forward to seeing him develop.
Jack is sponsored by ADW Electrical, a long-standing supporter of the Leopards and a company where he has gained valuable apprenticeship experience outside his Rugby League career.
