Challenge Cup Draw

Leigh Leopards have been drawn away to Workington Town, Mirfield or Royal Navy in the third round of the Betfred Challenge Cup, to be held over the weekend of 8-9 February.

Leopards’ first competitive game of the 2025 season comes the week before the Betfred Super League opener at Wigan Warriors on Thursday 13 February.

Both Mirfield and Royal Navy would be new opponents for the Leopards.

If League One Workington Town beat the winners of the first round tie between Mirfield or Royal Navy they would play Leigh for the sixth time in Challenge Cup history.

Leigh lost a Round 1 (last 32) tie 3-0 at Workington in 1958 before a Derwent Park crowd of 8,999.

In 1970 Leigh won 17-6 at Derwent Park at the same stage of the competition watched by 2,384 spectators.

Two years later, Cup holders Leigh defeated Town 19-4 at Hilton Park (4,462) in another last 32 tie.

Nearly 30 years ago Leigh suffered the blackest day in the club’s history, defeated 94-4 at Workington in a fifth round (last 16) tie watched by 3,436. Dean Marwood scored four of Town’s 17 tries and kicked 13 goals for a 42 point personal haul.

Cory Paterson scored four tries and Martyn Ridyard kicked 10 goals as Leigh defeated Town 68-14 at Leigh Sports Village in a fourth round tie in 2016.
