Lachlan Lam dominated the awards as Leigh Leopards wound up a highly successful season with a successful presentation dinner at Don Alberto’s in the heart of the town.
The Leopards no7 talisman was awarded Player of the Year, the most prestigious of the awards, following in the footsteps of his good friend Kai O’Donnell, the 2024 recipient.
Lam was also chosen as the Rugby League Writers and Broadcasters’ Association Player of the Year for a second time and their Chair Trevor Hunt was delighted to present him with his trophy.
Lam also nearly swept the board in the membership categories, winning five of the six awards from Leopards’ members.
The only exception was Tesi Niu, who capped an outstanding first season at the Leopards Den by lifting the Black Card Members’ Player of the Year.
Keanan Brand’s excellent season was acknowledged when the Leopards’ leading try-scorer was chosen as Attacker of the Year. The Ireland international scored 20 tries in 28 games.
Owen Trout, who capped a brilliant second season with the Leopards which culminated in selection for the England squad for the Ashes Series, was Defender of the Year. Trout missed only two games and in addition scored seven tries.
Lam’s co-captain Isaac Liu, another stand-out in his debut season in the UK, won the Coaches’ Award as their Player of the Year. Liu was ever-present during the season alongside Lam and Matty Davis.
Being voted Players’ Player of the Year and being recognised by your team-mates is a prestigious honour. This was won by the popular Tesi Niu, who scored 12 tries in 30 Leopards games.
Umyla Hanley was the only Leopards player chosen for the Betfred Super League Dream Team and he was deservedly chosen as Young Player of the Year. Hanley scored 13 tries in 28 games and formed an exciting right-wing partnership with Brand.
Bailey Hodgson’s emergence into an outstanding Super League player was rewarded when he was chosen as Leigh Independent Supporters. Association (LISA) Player of the Year. Hodgson played 29 games during the campaign and became a firm fans’ favourite.
TJ Boyd, a talented and consistent member of the Leopards’ Reserve team was the Reserves Player of the Year.
The first season of the Academy saw many young players emerge and Layton Jupp was the inaugural winner of the prestigious Academy Player of the Year.
Clubman of the Year deservedly was awarded to Assistant Kit and Apparel Manager Sean Fairhurst, known to everyone as Rudy. His work alongside Life Member Frank Taylor in a vital and often unsung role made him a highly popular choice.
Son of former Leigh halfback Alan Fairhurst, Sean’s dedication to his hometown club for over 20 years typifies the commitment of volunteers who form such an important contribution to our great club.
