18. GABI LEIGH
Birthdate: 23/12/1997
Position: Centre
Nickname: Gabsleigh
MY RUGBY LEAGUE JOURNEY: Family have always been Leigh fans, but I didn’t even know what rugby was 10 years ago (I was a football fan). The only rugby I had ever experienced was playing for school where I was told to catch a ball and run forwards because I was just an athletic runner (fun fact – it was my PE teacher Miss Pearson who is now Mrs Claire Collins). I then started working at the Miners when I was 16 as a glass collector and by the time I was 18 I was watching the U18s regularly and understood the game enough. Mairead Quinn started working behind the bar and the ladies needed more numbers, so I thought why not give it a go – I needed a reason to keep fit too so it made sense. I played for the miners for four years (plus Covid) and played in the grand final against Barrow which we won. I then moved to Wigan and stayed there for two years before coming to Leigh.
FORMER CLUBS: Wigan Warriors, Leigh Miners and then Thatto Heath, St Jude’s and Wigan St Pats for winter league.

RUGBY LEAGUE HERO: Nathan Cleary.
CAREER HIGHLIGHT: Scoring in the grand final.
AMBITION: To get through a season without an injury.
