13 JOHN ASIATA (C) – Sponsored by Leigh Cables
John Asiata, is the formidable team captain, leading the charge for the Leigh Leopards club in the Betfred Super League. With a versatile skill set encompassing loose forward, prop, and stand-off positions, Asiata has left an indelible mark on the rugby league landscape.

Prior to his leadership role at Leigh, Asiata showcased his prowess with stints at esteemed clubs such as the Brisbane Broncos and the North Queensland Cowboys, contributing significantly to the Cowboys’ 2015 NRL Grand Final and 2016 World Club Challenge triumphs. He made 138 appearances in the NRL and also represented Samoa and Tonga on the international stage. He was born on 19 April 1993 in Penrith, New South Wales.

Under Asiata’s seasoned guidance, the Leigh Leopards have soared to new heights, epitomising resilience and tenacity on the field. His leadership extends beyond the game, fostering a culture of excellence and camaraderie within the team. After an outstanding debut season in the UK in 2022 Asiata led from the front in the Leopards’ 2023 season, culminating in the Challenge Cup success at Wembley over Hull KR. Just like his NRL grand final win with the Cowboys the scoreline was 17-16 and the game went to golden point extra-time. Asiata was a proud man as he ascended the Wembley steps to the Royal Box to become only the third Leigh captain to lift the famous trophy.
